چکیده

We consider passive all-optical networks using wavelength division multiplexing and wavelength routing, i.e. the path of a signal is determined by the wavelength of the signal and the signal origin. We present upper and lower bounds on the required number of wavelengths to achieve a given blocking probability. Speciically we show that between ?p M (1?P b) and O ?p M wavelengths are required to support M active session requests in a network with M users and blocking probability P b. The lower bound holds for all networks with passive wavelength routing and xed wavelength changing devices. The upper bound is a passive construction without wavelength changers.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

A Lexicographically Optimized Routing Algorithm for All- Optical Networks

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new adaptive routing algorithm based on lexicographical optimization applicable to all-optical multi-wavelength networks. Such an algorithm appeared in [1] for IP packet routing. But because of its time complexity and the peculiarities of all-optical networks, we can’t apply it directly in all-optical networks. Here we develop a new approach that addr...

A Markov-based Reservation Algorithm for Wavelength

Most routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) algorithms for all-optical networks do not consider the potential problem of wavelength reservation confliction, which can happen even if the network is only lightly loaded. In this paper, we propose a new reservation protocol MBR (Markov-based backward reservation) based on Markov modeling of the optical links. Our simulations show that this new pro...

A New Model for Optimal Routing in All–Optical Networks with Scalable Number of Wavelength Converters1

A novel approach for modeling the optimal routing and wavelength assignment problem in wavelength division multiplexed all–optical networks is proposed. It is assumed that the optical switching nodes are equipped with a limited and scalable set of wavelength converters which can be used by any subset of incoming optical–connections. The proposed model, called the interconnected–layered–graph, p...

Routing in all-optical DWDM networks with sparse wavelength conversion capabilities

This work focuses on the Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problem in all-optical DWDM networks with Sparse Wavelength Conversion (SWC) capabilities. By sparse wavelength conversion, we mean that nodes within the optical network domain might or might not support optical wavelength conversion. For these nodes that support optical wavelength conversion, the number of wavelength converters m...
